One yard from a career night
Davante Adams has been doing this for thirteen seasons, and he is still finding new gears. His eight-catch, 195-yard outing against the Giants last week sits just 11 yards short of the career high he set back in 2021 with Green Bay, the fourth-best number of his career. Matthew Stafford, who found Adams for two of his four touchdown passes that night, called him blunt after the game: “He’s an elite player. He did it all for us, and he’s a guy that can do that.”
Stafford’s own number tells its own story. Four touchdown passes against New York pushed his career total to 427, sixth all-time in NFL history. At 33, Adams is a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro who led the league with 14 touchdown catches last season. Neither man is slowing down heading into Sunday’s trip to Denver.

Surtain waits on the other side
Los Angeles (1-1) will not have it as easy against the Broncos. Patrick Surtain II, a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro cornerback, is expected to shadow Adams for long stretches, and Denver (1-1) arrives having won nine straight games against NFC opponents since a Week 1 loss to Seattle in 2024. Quarterback Bo Nix bounced back from a rough outing against Kansas City, throwing for 288 yards on 31 attempts in a 20-13 win over Jacksonville last week after managing just 131 against the Chiefs.
Puka Nacua’s hip injury complicates things further for the Rams. He sat out last week and faces, in coach Sean McVay’s words, only a slight chance of playing Sunday. McVay has flagged the risk of the injury developing into a hernia if Nacua is rushed back. “You err on the side of caution,” McVay said. “Usually time is the best thing.”
A quote that frames the stakes
Adams, who has seen plenty in thirteen NFL seasons, kept his own perspective simple this week. “Football is the greatest team sport that there is,” he said, “it doesn’t guarantee anything for you.” With Nacua sidelined again, that message doubles as the game plan: Los Angeles will lean on its most productive receiver against the cornerback built to slow him down, in a matchup that could decide whether the Rams leave Denver at 2-1 or fall back to .500.
