A record that stood since 2012
Jason Witten held the Cowboys single-game receptions record for 14 years, with 16 catches in 2012. CeeDee Lamb passed him on Sunday against Houston. He finished with 17 catches for 189 yards and a touchdown, and no other Dallas player has put together 15 or more catches and 175 or more yards in the same game.
The touchdown mattered most. With 40 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Lamb caught a 12-yard score that gave the Cowboys a 34-30 lead and the win over the Texans.

Quiet first half, huge second
Lamb’s day started slowly. He had six catches for 49 yards before halftime, solid but hardly historic. After the break he took over, with 11 catches for 140 yards. Dak Prescott went to him again and again, and the quarterback finished 32-for-45 for 335 yards with one touchdown, the same one Lamb hauled in at the end.
Prescott said afterward that he knew the final call was a touchdown as soon as it came in. Lamb joked about coach Brian Schottenheimer’s nickname, saying he wanted “Schotty” to know he had his back.
Pace that sounds unreal
Through four games Lamb has 37 catches for 498 yards and four touchdowns. Stretched over a full season, that works out to roughly 2,116 yards and 17 touchdowns, numbers that would both be single-season NFL records. Four games is a small sample, and defenses will adjust, but nobody in the league is producing at that level right now.
The Texans pushed Dallas to the last minute and will wonder how they let the game slip with the ball in Prescott’s hands for the final drive. For the Cowboys, the win keeps a season alive that has had its share of close losses, including a 34-31 defeat to Baltimore in Brazil.
