Three goals in four minutes flip a scoreless opener
The Boston Bruins waited until the final four minutes, then finished the New York Rangers in a blur. Boston scored three times late in the third period to win 3-0 on Tuesday night, the season opener for both teams.
Fraser Minten broke it open with 3:46 left. He gathered Mason Lohrei’s pass off a neutral-zone takeaway and fired from the slot past Igor Shesterkin. Only 52 seconds later, JJ Peterka scored in his Boston debut, taking an Elias Lindholm feed and deking around defender Braden Schneider to finish five-hole. Mark Kastelic sealed it with an empty-netter at 17:29.
Minten was the only Bruin with multiple points. The win was Boston’s 11th straight home opener, which matches the NHL record.

Swayman stands tall, Shesterkin holds the line
Jeremy Swayman made 24 saves for the shutout, 10 of them in the third period. One of his best came early, stopping Oliver Bjorkstrand on a 2-on-1 with Marcus Pettersson. Midway through the third he denied Pavel Dorofeyev in alone after Connor Clifton broke his stick at the Bruins’ blue line, and he handled Mika Zibanejad’s one-timer off an offensive-zone faceoff win.
Shesterkin stopped 20 shots and kept the Rangers in it while his team piled up eight giveaways. Boston could not cash in on point-blank chances in the second period. Geekie rang the left post inside the opening five minutes, Shesterkin robbed Pavel Zacha on a breakaway, and he also turned aside Minten and David Pastrnak in transition.
A milestone night for Mike Sullivan goes the wrong way
It was Sullivan’s 1,000th game as an NHL head coach, and his Rangers were shut out. For Minten, the night was a nice return on a seven-year extension Boston gave him before the season started.
