Ten minutes, one decision, a lost night
Scotland’s evening at Hampden was effectively settled before it began. In the 10th minute Jack Hendry hauled down Dan Ndoye as the Swiss winger ran through on goal. The referee first pointed to the spot and showed a yellow card. VAR stepped in, overturned the penalty to a free kick and upgraded the caution to a straight red.
The correction cost Scotland a defender but not the free kick. Two minutes later Ricardo Rodriguez, the former AC Milan defender, curled it into the top-left corner to put Switzerland ahead.

Ndoye creates, Switzerland finish
With the extra man, Switzerland controlled the rest of the game. Ndoye, the player Hendry had fouled, kept running at a Scotland back line that was never allowed to settle. His low cross from the right in the 55th minute was swept home by Nico Elvedi. Late on, in the 82nd, he pulled the ball back again and Burnley forward Zeki Amdouni struck it past Angus Gunn for the third.
It finished 3-0, and Scotland could have few complaints about the scoreline given they spent more than 80 minutes with ten men.
Pocognoli still waiting for a win
This was Sebastien Pocognoli’s first game at Hampden as Scotland head coach, and it will not be remembered fondly. He picked up a yellow card himself in first-half stoppage time (45+1) while protesting at refereeing decisions. Scotland remain winless in Nations League B1 under the Belgian.
The next chance to change that comes quickly. Scotland travel to North Macedonia on Saturday, October 3, with kick-off at 7:45 PM UK time.
