WNBA: Lynx blow Indiana away, Clark shut down

A one-sided show in Minneapolis

The Minnesota Lynx crushed the Indiana Fever 86-66 on Thursday night in the final game of the WNBA regular season. It was over fast, thanks to a brutal opening quarter: 32-13, sparked by an 18-0 burst to start the game.

Kayla McBride led the way with 22 points. Natasha Howard added 21 points, shooting 9 for 11 from the field. Courtney Williams filled the box score: 9 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds. By halftime, the gap was already 62-32.

A night to forget for Caitlin Clark

For Indiana, only Kelsey Mitchell got past 10 points. Caitlin Clark had a miserable night: 2 points, 1 for 12 shooting, 0 for 7 from three-point range. Not the sort of tune-up you want heading into the playoffs.

Minnesota shut the door on the third quarter and held Indiana to just 9 points in the frame. The Lynx finished the season 33-11, despite a rough end to the campaign: two wins in their last six games. Olivia Miles missed a second straight game with pain in her left calf.

The playoff picture is taking shape

The Lynx sealed the No. 1 seed and will face eighth seed New York in the first round. Indiana, sixth, will meet the No. 3 seed: the Valkyries or the Aces, depending on the final results later in the night.
