A video on X, a few words and that was that. “I wont be able to play in Beijing this year. My knee is not yet in the condition I want it to be.” The world No. 1 is not hiding anything. The right knee, the one that has been troubling him for weeks, still hasnt given him the green light.

A Wimbledon title, then nothing
Sinner lifted the trophy on Londons grass in mid-July, the fourth Grand Slam title of his career. Since then, its been silence on court. No return date has been set. Just the wait, and a knee calling the shots for him.
Beijing now joins the list of tournaments he will miss. Another ATP 500 bites the dust, and an autumn build-up that keeps shrinking before the big end-of-season dates.
Zverev the main winner
One man stands to gain from this withdrawal: Alexander Zverev. The German, Sinners nearest rival in the ATP rankings, sees his chances of finishing the year top of the pile take another step up. Every week Sinner stays off the tour edges Zverev a little closer to a world No. 1 spot he has never held.
One question remains, and there is still no answer: when will Jannik Sinner play again?
