A night West Sacramento won’t forget
Thursday belonged to Lucas Spence. Nobody saw it coming. The Astros rookie crushed three home runs in the same game, his first three in the majors, and drove in five runs as Houston beat the Athletics 7-5.
He opened the scoring with a 429-foot shot in the second inning. Then, in the seventh, a 387-foot blast broke a tie. He wasn’t done. A third home run in the ninth put the game away for good.

A club with barely any members
Three homers in your first three career at-bats puts you in rare company. Only Seby Zavala, back in 2021, and Joshua Baez last August had done it before Spence. Isaac Paredes and Christian Walker chipped in with one homer apiece, giving Houston five on the night in total.
Oakland didn’t go quietly. Zack Gelof answered with a pair of home runs, and Jeff McNeil added a three-run blast of his own. None of it mattered. The Athletics dropped their seventh loss in nine games.
Every game counts now
Houston sits at 79-80, tied with Texas atop the AL West, but the Astros hold the tiebreaker on a 9-4 record in head-to-head matchups this season. Before Thursday, though, they had won just four of their previous 12 games, and the regular season is nearly out of room for slip-ups. Miguel Ullola worked three scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Brayan Abreu closed it out for his ninth save.
