A late goal that changes everything
Greece snatched a dramatic 2-1 win over Serbia on Thursday night in Belgrade to open their Nations League campaign. Andrija Zivkovic put the hosts ahead after just 4 minutes. Greece hit back after the break. Christos Tzolis levelled in the 68th minute with a thunderous left-footed strike into the inside netting of the top corner. Anastasios Douvikas then buried the winner in the 94th minute from a Tsimikas cross.
Greece had the better of the attacking play for long spells. Konstantinos Karetsas struck the post in the first half. Christos Tzolis and Fotis Kostoulas also wasted several chances. Serbia keeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic kept them alive with a string of saves until the hour mark.

A completely wild finish
The game turned deep into stoppage time. Greece kept coming, kept pressing, and finally got their reward. Douvikas arrived at the far post to finish Tsimikas’ delivery and hand his side all three points. A goal ripped out of the final seconds, pure last-gasp stuff.
VAR was called into action in the first half, in the 53rd minute, over a possible chance for Vangelis Pavlidis, with no impact on the scoreline. The win leaves Greece alone at the top of their group, with the Netherlands and Germany having shared a 1-1 draw elsewhere.
An ideal start to the new format
Greece are playing this Nations League setup for the first time and have opened with a statement result away to stubborn opposition. Serbia, meanwhile, will need a quick response or risk letting their campaign go off the rails early.
