Curry shuts down the free agency talk
“I’m not going anywhere.” Stephen Curry didn’t hesitate Thursday when asked about his stalled contract situation with the Warriors. Seventeen seasons in, the two-time MVP is eligible for a two-year, $136 million extension, and he wanted one thing understood immediately: this isn’t a hold-up, and it isn’t a lead-in to free agency. “I’ve been pretty straightforward and honest about it. I’m not going anywhere,” he said.
That matters because Curry has never once tested the open market. Not early in his career, not at his last extension, not now. Golden State has built four championship rosters around him, and at 38 next spring, he’s negotiating from a position almost nobody else in the league gets to hold.

It’s about timing, not doubt
Curry separated the two questions cleanly. Will he sign? Yes, eventually. When? That’s the part still up in the air. “There are just dynamics of where we’ve been the last four years, where we’re trying to go, and things that are related to my contract that can determine a lot of different things,” he explained. Golden State has spent recent offseasons reshaping the roster around his timeline already, and Curry’s comments suggest he’s weighing the same factors the front office is: not just what he’s worth, but where the team stands.
He drew a hard line on one point. “It’s not like free agency or anything is of interest to me,” he said, brushing aside any suggestion that this is leverage. That’s not how these situations usually play out around the league, and Curry seemed to know it.
No clock, and he’s fine with that
Curry set no deadline. “You’ll know when I’m making a decision that’s right and ready to move forward, but it’s not a distraction for me at all. Hopefully not the team either,” he said. Golden State has waited on Curry before and gotten what it needed. Nothing about Thursday suggested this time will be any different, just slower than some would like.
