A late burst seals it
Tobias Svarre won stage three of the CRO Race. The Danish rider from Uno-X Mobility came out on top in Labin after 174.5 kilometres from Krk to Labin. The stage finished with a final climb of 1.6 kilometres at an average gradient of 6.3%.
Svarre made his move on that last test. He caught Antonio Tiberi off guard inside the final 100 metres, just when the Bahrain-Victorious rider looked set for the win. Tim Wellens of UAE Team Emirates-XRG took third, six seconds back. Adrien Boichis of Red Bull-BORA-Hansgrohe was fourth at 29 seconds.

A first pro win
At 22, Svarre has landed the first professional victory of his career. It’s a big moment for the Norwegian outfit Uno-X Mobility, a team that has built a habit of throwing up surprise names in smaller stage races. The Dane did not stop at the stage win. He also pulled on the leader’s jersey.
That new status was helped by what happened earlier in the stage. Juan Sebastian Molano, who had started the day in red, abandoned on the road. As for Carl-Frederik Bevort, who had earned plenty of attention with his stage two win the day before and had sat second overall before the start, he lost time on the Skitača climb and now looks a long way off the general classification battle.
The race is wide open again
The CRO Race in Croatia has a nasty habit of springing surprises. After Bevort the previous day, Svarre has now moved to the top of the standings. The peloton heads back onto Croatian roads for the next stages, with a new leader to protect and several rivals still very much in the mix overall.
Antonio Tiberi and Tim Wellens, second and third on the stage, are still in the hunt too. With several punchy stages left before the finish, this one should stay alive right to the end. Uno-X Mobility, a team that likes to spoil the party in races like this, now has a serious card to play with Svarre.
For Carl-Frederik Bevort, the target has shifted. His general classification hopes took a hit on Skitača, so the Dane may now turn his attention to stage wins instead, after showing good legs again in the sprint finish the day before.
