A fight first talked up in 2017, now finally signed off
It has taken close to a decade of wrangling, but Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will finally share a ring on Friday 11 December at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. The Welsh venue, with a capacity of 73,931, is set to host one of the most eagerly awaited heavyweight fights of the modern era.
Talk of this showdown goes back to 2017. Since then, the bout has been announced, shelved and almost written off more than once. Joshua was still said to be wavering in early September, according to reports around the official confirmation.

Ring Magazine and Netflix behind the announcement
The event is being pushed jointly by Ring Magazine and Netflix, which will broadcast the fight. Turki Al-Sheikh, the magazine’s chairman and the man behind several huge fight nights in recent years, summed up the stakes without blinking: “For 15 years, nobody has managed to make this fight happen. The time for words is over, now it’s time to fight.” He promises “one of the biggest fights in boxing history”.
Meanwhile, Dana White, also linked to the project, called it “a moment of huge historical weight for heavyweight boxing”.
Two careers that never crossed paths
Fury, 38, the former unified champion known as the Gypsy King, and Joshua, 36, Olympic gold medallist in 2012 before ruling the division himself, have never shared a ring despite their reigns overlapping for almost a decade at heavyweight. The fight remains one of the last major bouts never staged between two champions of this generation on English soil. Mid-December in Cardiff is now locked in, with a headline act that should dominate the boxing conversation until then.
