A five-run outburst before the ballpark had even settled
One error was all Arizona needed. Ketel Marte pounced on a Colorado miscue to reach second, and the floodgates opened from there.
Gabriel Moreno singled him home. Pavin Smith did the same moments later. Nolan Arenado drove in another run before Corbin Carroll blew the inning open with a two-run triple. Four runs, one at-bat sequence, and the Diamondbacks hadn’t even taken the field yet.

Two homers, one inning, same night
Tim Tawa answered with his 11th long ball of the year in the eighth. Not to be outdone, Colorado’s Ezequiel Tovar rocketed his 12th out of the yard right back in the bottom half. It made for a tidy footnote in an otherwise lopsided box score.
Merrill Kelly did the heavy lifting on the mound, working 5 1/3 innings and allowing just two runs on four hits. Jonathan Loaisiga needed a steady hand to close it out, notching his second save despite a shaky ninth. Colorado starter Mason Adams racked up eight strikeouts in six innings but couldn’t avoid four unearned runs.
Four games left, and the margins are razor-thin
Arizona sits at 84-74, three games behind Philadelphia and Chicago, both at 87-71, for the two remaining National League wild-card berths. San Diego, at 87-70, holds the top wild-card spot, half a game clear of the Phillies and Cubs.
With four games to play, every clutch at-bat now carries postseason weight.
