Washington Commanders vs Seattle Seahawks: backup quarterbacks set for a Landover shootout 
Week 3 pits an unbeaten team against one still looking for its first win, but this one really comes down to the quarterbacks. Both sides head into Sunday with their starter sidelined.
Seattle has opened the season perfectly, going 2-0, while Washington are still chasing a first victory after two games.
Both teams will now turn to backups under centre: Sam Darnold was hurt on Seattle’s opening drive of the season, handing the reins to Drew Lock.
For Washington, Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow in the second quarter against Dallas, an injury to the same arm that had already slowed him last season, and Marcus Mariota steps in.
Kickoff is set for 19:00 Paris time at Northwest Stadium, with the line moving sharply in Seattle’s favour after both injuries were announced.
The spread opened at Seattle -5.5 and has since moved beyond a touchdown, a sign bookmakers see Washington as the bigger concern.
The total has also been trimmed, dropping from 41.5 to 40.5, a direct result of losing both starting quarterbacks.
That kind of market move says more about uncertainty than certainty. Both coaching staffs will have to strip things back and keep the game plan basic for their replacement quarterbacks.

Washington come in off a heavy 37-20 home loss to the Cowboys in Week 2, a defeat that leaves a mark ahead of Seattle’s visit.
Daniels went down in the game after awkwardly landing on his left arm while trying to brace himself following contact with his own lineman.
Initial scans did not show a fracture, but further tests were needed to assess the full extent of the damage.
Mariota knows the position inside out. The former Titans and Falcons starter has already spent several seasons as a full-time NFL quarterback.
That experience changes the picture quite a bit compared with throwing in an inexperienced passer against a solid Seattle defence.
Even so, Washington are 0-2 and need to get moving fast in front of their own fans before the season slips away.
The pressure is building on a group that expected to build on last season, not start back at square one by late September.
Mariota already had to take over on the fly after Daniels left against Dallas, so at least he has one live rep under his belt before his first full start.

Seattle Seahawks: two clean wins and a defence setting the tone 
The Seahawks are perfect through two weeks, highlighted by a 31-7 win over the Cardinals last time out.
Drew Lock began the year as the backup after Sam Darnold went down on the opening offensive snap of the season.
This trip to Washington is his third straight game leading Seattle’s offence, giving him some continuity even if the situation is hardly ideal.
That 24-point win over Arizona showed a side that can take control in a hurry, no matter whose name is on the quarterback line.
That team-wide consistency, more than anything one player has done, is why Seattle are still favourites despite losing their starter.
Bookmakers still give the Seahawks around a 73% chance of winning, a figure that reflects faith in the group as a whole rather than one man.
Still, going to Washington is a different test from playing at home, and how Lock handles the closing stages will be watched closely.
A trip to the East Coast, with the time-zone shift that brings for a Pacific-based team, adds another wrinkle for Lock in his third start.

The market reacted hard to both absences, but Marcus Mariota is still an experienced quarterback, while Drew Lock is only making his third start for Seattle.
Washington are at home and their recent losses have been tighter than the current market spread of 7.5 points suggests.
Taking the points with the Commanders looks more sensible than blindly siding with a favourite whose offence has not exactly been lighting it up this season.
Seattle remain the likeliest winner, but a margin as big as 7.5 feels too steep against a Washington side that, despite two defeats, has not been run off the field from first whistle to last.
