A mark nobody had even come close to
Angel Reese put up 18 points and 10 rebounds on Monday night at Barclays Center. It was her 32nd double-double of the season. She already owned the WNBA single-season record, and now she has pushed it out one more notch.
The numbers need some context. A WNBA regular season runs to 44 games. Atlanta had played 43 at this point. Reese has now posted a double-double in almost three out of every four games.
That kind of output has helped drive the best season the franchise has had in years. The Dream are 29-14 and riding a four-game winning streak.

Canada ran the show from start to finish
The sharpest individual display, though, came from elsewhere. Jordin Canada scored 19 points, handed out nine assists, the game high, and added three steals, also a game high, while coughing up just one turnover.
Atlanta won 95-84. DeWanna Bonner added 17 points, Rhyne Howard 16 and Allisha Gray 14. Howard and Gray, the Dream’s top scorers on the season, had been blanked in the first quarter, combining for five shots and zero points.
New York led 33-27 with 6:24 left in the second quarter. Atlanta closed the period on a 6-0 run, then came out of the break with a 13-0 burst spanning half-time to move ahead 50-40. From there, it was done.
Home-court advantage is on the line Wednesday
Both teams are already in the playoffs. The battle now is about seeding. The Dream will clinch home-court advantage in the first round by beating the Liberty on Wednesday, or if Indiana drops one of its final two games. New York can no longer get it.
Breanna Stewart posted 27 points and 14 rebounds for the Liberty, while Jonquel Jones had 18 points and 12 rebounds. Pauline Astier finished with 15 points and four assists, including 10 points in the opening quarter alone, going 4 for 4 from the floor, all of them in the paint. Sabrina Ionescu added 15 points.
Atlanta won this one with defense. Seven steals, and New York held to 42% shooting. Neither side could buy a clean look from deep, with the Dream going 8 for 28 and the Liberty 7 for 29.
