Texas keep the ballots, Ole Miss make the noise
Fifty-eight of 69 first-place votes. That is what Texas came away with when The Associated Press released its new college football Top 25 earlier today, and the number says plenty about how little Week 3 shifted anybody at the top.
The Longhorns handled UTSA 30-6 at home to stay 3-0. Georgia collected three first-place votes after putting 45 points on Arkansas in a 45-17 win. Notre Dame held third without a single first-place vote, having beaten Michigan State 27-10.
Same three names, same order, one more week. Then the ballots got interesting.

Chambliss runs Ole Miss into the top five
Ole Miss climbed four places to fourth, and three voters went further than that, putting the Rebels first outright. The reason was Saturday against LSU, a 32-24 win that sent Lane Kiffin away beaten by the program he used to coach.
Trinidad Chambliss ran the show. The quarterback who played under Kiffin at Ole Miss last season threw for 363 yards and two touchdowns, then settled the thing himself with a 14-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. LSU slid from seventh to 10th.
Behind the Rebels sit Indiana at five with four first-place votes, Miami at six with one, then Ohio State, Alabama and BYU closing out the top 10. Ohio State are the only team in that group carrying a loss.
Texas A&M pay the highest price
Kentucky’s 31-21 win in College Station cost Texas A&M 14 spots. The Aggies fell from ninth to 23rd, the steepest drop on the board this week. Louisville went the other way, up seven to 16th after a 41-31 win over SMU, who dropped six places to 22nd.
Two teams walked in from outside the rankings. Florida arrived at 21st after winning 44-39 at Auburn, and Mississippi State came in at 24th following a 41-34 result at South Carolina. Both had opened their SEC schedules on the road.
