Villarreal vs Levante: six defeats in seven for the Granotes 
Levante have lost six of their last seven league meetings with Villarreal. The only break in that run came with a 2-0 win in April 2022.
That history frames La Liga round seven, set for Sunday 20 September at 18:30 Paris time at the Estadio de la Ceramica. Yet the two clubs are level on points.
Villarreal have five after six matches and sit 14th. Levante also have five from five games, leaving them 15th.
It is a striking gap for a club that finished third in La Liga four months ago. Levante, by contrast, finished 16th and only just stayed up.
The Yellow Submarine finally got moving at La Rosaleda, winning 1-3 at Malaga. It was their first victory in seven matches in all competitions.
Levante arrive on the back of a 2-4 home defeat to Barcelona. The Valencian club were then due to face Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday, but the match was called off at the last minute because the pitch was unplayable.
The Granotes now head to this trip without a competitive match since hosting the Catalans. Villarreal, meanwhile, carry in some momentum after a first win that has at least steadied the table.
The overall record still leans heavily towards the home side, with 23 wins in 36 meetings in all competitions and only nine defeats. The balance has never really swung the other way.
Both teams are wrapping up their schedules before the international break. A win would mean heading into it with a bit of breathing space.
Villarreal: one win in seven for last season’s third-placed side 
Villarreal finished third in La Liga last season and have won just once in their first seven outings of 2026-2027. The drop-off is brutal.
Their league record reads one win, two draws and three defeats. The draws came against Racing de Santander and Atletico Madrid, both ending 2-2.
Things then turned sour with four straight losses, including a 2-3 home defeat to Deportivo La Coruna and a 1-2 loss to Real Betis. Borussia Dortmund were wedged in between with a 3-2 win in the Champions League.
The club have now lost both of their league home games this season. That record at the Ceramica is the biggest question mark hanging over Sunday.
Their four away points have come from two draws, in Santander and Madrid. The Yellow Submarine are coping better on the road than at home for now.
The trip to Malaga ended the slide, driven by a Pape Gueye brace after he came off the bench. The Senegal midfielder should start on Sunday.
Peter Gulacsi has also moved ahead of Luiz Junior in the goalkeeper pecking order. Nicolas Pepe could return on the right after being rested at La Rosaleda.
Juan Foyth remains out with an Achilles injury, and Santi Comesana is also expected to miss out after going off in the first half in Malaga. Inigo Perez is likely to stick with the rest of the winning XI.
Alberto Moleiro could again operate in Villarreal’s central attacking role. Tajon Buchanan remains his direct rival on the left.

Levante: five points from five, but no away goals 
Levante have one win, two draws and two defeats from their first five La Liga matches before this trip to Villarreal. Five points and 15th place is about par for the newly promoted side.
The season began badly with a 0-3 loss at Espanyol. Since then, the Valencian club have picked up five points from their last four league games, a clear step in the right direction.
The standout result so far is the 5-2 home hammering of Real Betis. That one-off burst shows the attacking punch Luis Castro can get when his side clicks.
But the away record tells a very different story. Levante have not scored a single goal in their three trips, between the 0-3 loss in Cornellaa and two 0-0 draws in Pamplona and Malaga.
All five of their points have been earned at the Ciutat de Valencia. That imbalance matters heading into a visit to the Ceramica.
The defeat to Barcelona put them back in their place, with four goals shipped at home. Ivan Romero scored after coming off the bench and should return to the starting line-up.
Karl Etta Eyong is still out with a thigh problem, while Alejandro Primo continues his recovery from a shoulder injury. Enzo Bardeli, though, is expected to come back into midfield.
The postponement of the Athletic Bilbao match eases the schedule but kills the rhythm. The Granotes head to Castellon without any recent competitive action.
Levante finished 16th last season, just one place above the relegation play-off. There is still plenty of room for growth in their second straight year in the top flight.
