98 points between them, and it is only Week 2
Ninety-eight. That is the combined total Chicago and Minnesota put on the board last Sunday, and both walked away winners.
The Bears went to Carolina and hung 59 on the Panthers in a 59-37 win. The Vikings closed on Green Bay with the last 29 points of the afternoon to take it 39-22. Now they meet at Soldier Field, both 1-0, both with a first division game on the card, and neither having been asked to stop anybody yet.
Caleb Williams is not planning to dial it back. “Scoring on every drive is our mindset. I think thats our ceiling,” the Bears quarterback said.

Minnesota won, then emptied half the depth chart
Kyler Murray lasted a quarter. A concussion took him out, Carson Wentz came on, and the comeback happened on Wentz’s watch. Kevin O’Connell said Wednesday that Murray got through a limited practice. “He’s in the protocol. We’ll see how he responds, and we’ll keep leaning on the medical staff.”
No clearance means Wentz keeps the job.
The backfield is thinner too. Jordan Mason went on injured reserve Wednesday with a fractured right thumb. Aaron Jones Sr. should split carries with rookie Demond Claiborne.
Williams did all that without his tight end
Here is the line Minnesota should be staring at. Against Carolina, Williams went 21 of 29 for 269 yards and two touchdowns, a 124.1 rating, and added 65 yards and two scores on the ground. Colston Loveland, his tight end, did not catch a single pass.
D’Andre Swift took care of the rest with 124 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He was limited Wednesday with ankle and knee trouble. Right tackle Darnell Wright did not practice at all.
Both defences are a work in progress. Montez Sweat and Kentavius Street have a sack apiece for Chicago. Andrew Van Ginkel has 1.5 for Minnesota, and he is carrying a knock of his own into the week.
