Montpellier Herault Rugby vs USA Perpignan: three straight opening-day home losses for MHR 
Montpellier have lost their first home game for a third straight season. Section Paloise came out on top 27-19 on September 5.
The runners-up in France put that right a week later, grinding out a 26-12 win away at Vannes. MHR sit eighth heading into round three.
USA Perpignan are two places higher in sixth, with 69 points scored across their first two matches. Neither side has built any real consistency yet.
Kick-off is set for Saturday, September 19 at 16:35 in Montpellier. The game will be shown on Canal+ and Canal+ Live.
The Catalans have shown two completely different sides in the space of a fortnight. They were beaten by two points at Jean-Bouin after trailing by 22, then turned around and overpowered Castres at home.
So this is a meeting of two teams who can be brilliant one minute and a mess the next. The winner will move, for now, into the top half before the break.
Montpellier Herault Rugby: a strong response at Vannes 
Montpellier opened their season by falling 0-10 behind at home to Pau by the 36th minute. Two first-half yellow cards did the damage early on.
Hooker Lyam Akrab cut the gap from a driving maul before the interval, but it was never enough. A Maddocks try on 65 minutes and a penalty on 72 minutes put the result beyond doubt, 27-19.
The trip to Vannes brought the response they needed. Level-ish at 12-11 at the break, the Herault side pulled away after Arthur Vincent finished wide on 44 minutes.
The Breton newcomers did not score again after that turning point, and MHR left with a comfortable 26-12 win. That second-half control is the clearest sign yet that the group has its edge back.
Joan Caudullo, tied down until 2029, had already warned of a possible hangover after the club’s landmark season. The fixture list proved him right on day one.
The treatment room is still crowded, with Uelese and Haouas ruled out for several months. The staff are having to manage without two forwards for a long stretch.

USA Perpignan: 69 points scored, but only one win 
Perpignan were 28-6 down at the break at Jean-Bouin on opening weekend. The Catalans had conceded four tries and not scored a single one.
Their first try came on 42 minutes, while USAP were down to 14 men. A 20-point second half dragged the score back to 28-26 and earned a losing bonus point.
The visit of Castres followed the opposite script. Flying for close to half an hour, USAP led 24-7 before completely switching off.
Castres fought back to 31-29 with a yellow card against the Catalans to manage. The introduction of experienced Fijian Peceli Yato, who scored twice, settled the game in a 43-29 final.
New Zealander Sevu Reece still holds down a wing spot in the Catalan back line. His pace fits the front-foot style USAP have brought back since the restart.
Their tally reads 69 points scored and 57 conceded. Attack is not the issue. The long, maddening lapses are.
