Marseille open their Europa League campaign on Thursday 17 September with a trip to Besiktas Park. Kick-off is 9pm French time, 10pm locally, since Turkey runs an hour ahead.

Their supporters will not be there. The away end is off limits for this one, which hands the Istanbul crowd 90 uninterrupted minutes to make itself heard. Both sides start on zero. The single-league format leaves very little slack: eight games, then the table tells you what your season looks like. A result in Turkey would go a long way for Marseille.
