Thiago Scuro lays it out
AS Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro spoke to RMC this morning and made no attempt to soften the message. “Obviously, we’re going to see players leave this winter. It’s important,” he said. The message is plain enough. January is there to fix what went wrong in the summer.
Scuro also gave a blunt assessment of his own work. “I’m not very happy with what we did this summer. And now we need corrective solutions,” he went on. That’s not something you hear often from a man still in the job. The Brazilian says Monaco’s squad is unbalanced, with too many bodies in some areas and too few in others.

A summer window that went off the rails
ASM had built its summer around a number of planned departures. Folarin Balogun and Lamine Camara were on the list. Neither moved. The reasons differ from case to case, but the outcome is the same: Monaco are left overloaded in attack and short elsewhere.
“If we have the chance to give the team better balance, we’ll do it. We have a lot of players in attacking areas, but I think we’re lacking options in other positions,” Scuro explained. It sounds an awful lot like a warning shot to the dressing room.
January is set to be busy on the Rock
The calendar is working against Monaco. The winter window is short, selling clubs rarely hold the upper hand, and buying clubs know they can squeeze you when the clock is ticking. Scuro knows that. Better to say it now than scramble later.
As for who goes, that remains to be seen. The sporting director named no one. The surplus attacking players are the obvious candidates, given the logic he has laid out. Until then, ASM have to make do with the squad they’ve got.
