Despite those opposite results, it is the Steelers who go into Week 2 as 4.5-point underdogs, according to the bookmakers. The market has clearly seen something the scoreboard did not.
Kickoff, as they say over there, is set for Sunday 20 September at 19:00 Paris time at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. It is the Patriots’ first home game of the season.
Both teams are 1-0 against the spread, which says a fair bit about the gap between the raw score and the actual performance. The Patriots lost by three points at the defending champions.
Drake Maye threw three interceptions in that game, including one in the end zone with 21 seconds left. Seattle picked off the quarterback on each of his last three drives.
Pittsburgh, meanwhile, built its win against an attack missing its planned starter. Atlanta ruled Tua Tagovailoa out 48 hours before kickoff.
Cooper Rush stepped in at the last minute, and the Falcons managed only 13 points at Acrisure Stadium. That context takes the shine off the Steelers’ defensive display ahead of a clash with a Patriots side that looks desperate to hit back.

The Patriots opened their season on Wednesday 9 September on the road in Seattle. The final 13-10 score is still their only official outing so far.
The game was decided more by turnovers than by any real attacking flow. Josh Jobe grabbed the crucial interception in the end zone with 21 seconds remaining.
Drake Maye finished the night averaging 5.4 yards per pass attempt, well below his usual standard. The average depth of his throws stayed shallow all evening.
There is a structural reason for that, at least in part. A.J. Brown, the top receiver on the roster, suffered a high sprain in his right ankle during the game.
An MRI confirmed the diagnosis and he has been placed on injured reserve, ruling him out for at least four games. TreVeyon Henderson, also dealing with an ankle issue, remains limited at running back.
Mike Vrabel, though, has a defense the franchise poured serious money into at the start of September 2026. Christian Gonzalez signed a four-year, $135 million extension, with $102 million guaranteed.
That deal makes him the highest-paid cornerback in history at the position. The Patriots also brought in defensive tackle DaQuan Jones over opening weekend on a one-year deal worth up to $6 million.
The 34-year-old, with 12 seasons in the league behind him, reunites with Vrabel, a coach he has worked with before. Defensive depth was the main job for the staff before Pittsburgh came to town.
The offensive line and the run game are the next two jobs on the list. With A.J. Brown out, the carrying load falls more heavily on the ground game.
Still, going back to Foxborough gives Drake Maye and the Patriots a better setup. The quarterback gets his first home game of the season in front of his own crowd.

The Steelers started their season on Sunday 13 September in front of their own fans. The 20-13 win over Atlanta got them to 1-0.
The defensive performance needs to be put in context. The Falcons showed up without Tua Tagovailoa, who was ruled out the previous Friday.
The Georgia franchise had still been describing its quarterback as the starter earlier in the week before switching to Cooper Rush. Pittsburgh ended up facing an attack thrown together at short notice.
Twenty points at Acrisure Stadium is also a modest total for a home game. A seven-point margin does not exactly scream domination.
The bookmakers have reflected that, installing the Steelers as 4.5-point underdogs for this trip. Not many Week 1 winners are handed that kind of tag.
There is also uncertainty in the secondary at a key spot. Joey Porter Jr. is listed as questionable for this game, which would weaken the outside coverage.
The offensive line has also been reshuffled over the summer. At the end of August 2026, Pittsburgh sent offensive tackle Broderick Jones to Dallas in a trade involving three 2027 draft picks.
The franchise’s 2023 first-round pick was shipped out with 10 days left before the season started. Protecting the pocket in Foxborough is now a major issue on this trip.
The Steelers are still 1-0 against the spread, which tells you their profile is not collapsing in the numbers. The margin for error just looks slimmer than the result suggests.
Pittsburgh also has to travel across the conference, three days after most teams in the league. Week 2 leaves no breathing room.
The repeat test is the final question for this offense. Twenty points against a team missing its starter does not guarantee anything against a sharper Patriots defense.
