Three receivers hurt, one veteran signed
The Chargers left Sunday with a loss and a receiver room in pieces. By Tuesday night they had gone shopping.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling is joining the practice squad, a source told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The 31-year-old spent training camp in Dallas and was cut when the Cowboys trimmed to 53. He has been sitting on the market since.
Los Angeles also promoted Gary Jennings from their own practice squad to the active roster on the same day.

What Arizona cost them
Three wideouts came off that field hurt. Ladd McConkey took a rib injury, KeAndre Lambert-Smith a hamstring, Derius Davis something the club has not specified.
McConkey looked the worst of it in real time. He had five catches for 82 yards and appeared to be heading for a far bigger afternoon before linebacker Mack Wilson Sr. caught him in the third quarter as he went up for an in-breaking throw over the middle. He stayed down, then left, and never came back. Jim Harbaugh has him day-to-day.
Lambert-Smith went on injured reserve on Tuesday, which parks him for at least four games. Davis was hurt on a Justin Herbert deep ball that safety Andrew Wingard intercepted, landing awkwardly on his shoulder. He did return to the game.
A well-travelled fill-in
Valdes-Scantling arrives with a career that reads like a flight itinerary. Green Bay drafted him in the fifth round out of South Florida in 2018 and kept him four years. Kansas City had him for two. Buffalo, New Orleans, San Francisco and Pittsburgh have all taken a turn since.
What he brings is the thing Los Angeles just lost in bulk: a receiver who can run past people and does not need three weeks to work out where to line up. Whether that turns into snaps against the Raiders depends entirely on how McConkey’s ribs feel by Sunday.
