Olympique Lyonnais vs Stade Rennais: ten points for the visitors, just one clean sheet in four rounds 
Rennes have collected 10 points from a possible 12 in Ligue 1 and still havent tasted defeat. Even so, the Brittany side have kept only one clean sheet across those four matches.
Those numbers frame Saturdays showdown on 19 September, with kick-off at 20:45 CET at the Groupama Stadium. Rennes share top spot with Lille and Monaco, while Olympique Lyonnais sit fifth.
The schedule has a major say in this one. Both clubs play their first league-phase Europa League matches on Wednesday 16 September, with Olympique Lyonnais at Anderlecht and Rennes in Graz.
For Rennes, that trip to Austria marks a return to European football after three years away. They earned a Europa League place thanks to Lenss Coupe de France triumph, when sixth in Ligue 1 would originally have only got them into the Conference League.
Olympique Lyonnais did not exactly choose this path. The Gones were dumped out in the Champions League play-offs by Fenerbahce, despite beating Sparta Prague over two legs.
Since that exit at the Groupama Stadium on 28 August, Lyon have gone three league games without defeat. They drew with Le Havre, beat Auxerre 3-1, then held Paris FC to a 0-0.
The recent head-to-head record leans the visitors way. Rennes have six wins to Lyons four across the last 10 meetings between the clubs.

The 0-0 away at Paris FC was a useful defensive marker. The Moussa Niakhaté-Felix Bacher centre-back pairing should keep its place after Lyons first clean sheet of the season.
Lyons attack has lost an important piece in the closing stages of the transfer window. Malick Fofana has gone to Sunderland, cutting Paulo Fonsecas options out wide.
The club, however, kept Pavel Sulc, their main creator. He remains the link between midfield and the front line.
Julien Duranville will not add anything this weekend. Signed from Borussia Dortmund in the 2026 summer window, the winger has played only twice for his new club before a muscle injury.

Rennes, unbeaten but still too open at the back 
Four matches, three wins, one draw: Rennes have made their best start in recent memory. The 2-2 draw with Paris Saint-Germain set the tone.
That was followed by a 3-2 win over Le Mans, a 2-1 victory at Angers, then a 1-0 home success against Marseille. Rennes are winning, but rarely with much comfort.
They have managed only one clean sheet all season so far, and that defensive record remains the weak link in the story. Franck Haises side are getting by because they are simply scoring more than the other lot.
Esteban Lepaul is the main threat up front. The striker scored 21 Ligue 1 goals last season, and he is still the only Rennes player to have scored more than once in the league this campaign.
The slight concern is recent form. Lepaul has drawn a blank in the last two league matches, and the whole attack has cooled as a result.
As for availability, Haise has a full squad to choose from ahead of the European return. No one was listed as unavailable before the trip to Graz.
