Seven. That’s how many defensive snaps Da’Shawn Hand played in a Falcons jersey. Seven on Sunday in Pittsburgh, in his Atlanta debut. No tackles to his name.

And it may already be over.

NFL Network reported Monday that the 30-year-old defender is likely dealing with a torn quadriceps. The sort of injury that does not invite much debate.

Hand is seeing multiple doctors before deciding anything. Surgery is not off the table. He is gathering opinions, not a verdict.

Even so, a lost season is the likeliest outcome. Atlanta comes off a 20-13 loss in Pittsburgh and has already thinned out its defensive line rotation, at a point in the calendar when depth starts to matter.

Six teams, 78 games, 6.5 sacks

Atlanta is the latest stop in a career spent on the move. Detroit drafted Hand in the fourth round in 2018. Then came Tennessee, Miami and the Chargers.

He has played 78 career games and started 26 of them, with 6.5 sacks, 131 tackles, four forced fumbles and one interception. A useful rotational piece, never indispensable. At 30, with a torn quad, the road ahead just got a lot steeper.
