Buffalo had not won in Houston in 20 years. That is finished. The Bills took the Texans 36-31 on Sunday in a game that kept switching hands.
Josh Allen had a hand in four touchdowns. The last, a 34-yard throw to Joshua Palmer with 1:36 left, ended it. That drive covered 96 yards in seven plays and started deep in Buffalo’s own end.
Allen finished 20 of 29 for 334 yards and two touchdown passes, plus two more on the ground. Fifth trip to Houston, playoffs included. First one he has walked out of with a win.

Two 100-yard receivers in Joe Brady’s first game in charge
The setting adds weight. This was Joe Brady’s opener as Buffalo head coach.
Dalton Kincaid caught five for 130 yards. DJ Moore had a lively debut in Bills colors with five receptions, 100 yards and a touchdown. Allen has rarely had two targets clear the century mark in the same game these past few seasons.
Tyler Bass hit three field goals. On defense, Greg Rousseau got home twice.
Houston had an answer in David Montgomery, who scored twice on the ground and once through the air in his first game in new colors. The Texans stayed with it all afternoon without ever getting clear.
The part Buffalo will care about
Thirty-six points on the road in Week 1 is worth something. The drive that produced the last seven matters more.
Buffalo had to close a game out with the clock working against them, and did. Ninety-six yards, under two minutes, no panic. That is precisely the sequence the Bills have let slip in the moments that counted over recent seasons.
Allen delivered it. Two decades of losing in Texas went with it.
