A sweep that never looked close
Cloud9 opened the League Championship Series Summer Split playoffs overnight by beating Shopify Rebellion 3-0. The third seed took the first map on red side and the next two on blue.
The three games averaged 35 minutes and 25 seconds, with the quickest at 30:24 and the longest at 40:57. That spread matters in a best-of-five format: Cloud9 never had to grind out a 45-minute stalemate, and they close out the series with their whole roster rested for the next round.
Edward “Tactical” Ra took MVP honours on the opening and closing maps, averaging 5 kills, 1.7 deaths and 7.7 assists across the three games. His teammate Lee “Loki” Sang-min was named MVP of the middle map with a 5.3/2.3/6.7 line.

Seeding did what seeding usually does
Cloud9 finished the seven-week round robin at 5-2 and third in the standings. Shopify Rebellion went 3-4 and scraped the sixth and final playoff berth. The gap held up on the day.
The Summer Split began on July 25 with eight teams, each playing the other once in a best-of-three. The bottom two were eliminated outright. LYON and Team Liquid, first and second, skipped the quarter-finals entirely and wait in the semis, which is a considerable structural advantage in a bracket this short.
Round 1 continues today with Sentinels against FlyQuest.
What comes next
Shopify Rebellion drop into the losers’ bracket and face the loser of Sentinels and FlyQuest on Friday, September 18. Cloud9 get the harder assignment: LYON, the regular-season leaders, on Saturday, September 19. Team Liquid meet the Sentinels-FlyQuest winner the following day.
The split runs through to the finals in October, so there is still a long way for Cloud9 to travel. Beating the sixth seed 3-0 tells us little about how they handle a team that beat everyone. Next Saturday will.
