Four games left, and she watches all of them
Katie Lou Samuelson has had surgery on her left knee. Her season is finished. Seattle announced it this morning without giving much away, confirming the procedure was arthroscopic and adding no detail beyond that.
“Your Storm family is with you, Lou. Sending all our love and support, and wishing you a speedy recovery,” the club posted on Friday.
Seattle have four games to play. They sit at 8-32, the worst record in the WNBA, and the next one arrives Thursday at home against Las Vegas. Whatever the Storm have left to play for, Samuelson is no longer part of it.

Thirty-two games, one start
She appeared 32 times this season and started once. The line reads 4.4 points and 2.1 rebounds a night, and that is where it now stops.
The wider career line does not sit far from it. One hundred and seventy games, 73 of them starts, 5.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists. Five franchises across the years: Chicago in 2019, Dallas in 2020, Seattle in 2021, Los Angeles in 2022, Indiana in 2024, and back to Seattle this season.
Count the years in that list and two of them are missing entirely. Samuelson is 29 and has played six WNBA seasons since being drafted.
Fourth overall, with a title already won
Chicago took her fourth overall in the 2019 draft. She arrived out of UConn carrying a national championship from 2016 and the expectations attached to a top-five pick.
Seven years on she is on her second stint in Seattle, heading into an offseason that begins with rehabilitation rather than rest. The Storm finish the year short of a rotation player and holding the league’s bottom record.
