A goalkeeper’s pass, and it’s all level again
Djordje Petrovic handed the ball straight to Kevin Schade. The German winger needed one touch: lift it over the Bournemouth keeper and make it 2-2.
Four minutes earlier, Bournemouth were ahead. Marcus Tavernier had just finished off a well-worked move, steering it into the far corner seven minutes after the restart. The ground believed.
Four minutes. That was all the Cherries lasted.

The script Marco Rose knows only too well
It had already started badly for the home side. Adrien Truffert made a mess of it, Yehor Yarmoliuk crossed, Schade headed home. 0-1.
Bournemouth pushed. Rayan somehow missed the target from six yards, the kind of miss that lingers. Then Justin Kluivert levelled with a left-footed strike.
Turnaround, noise, and then nothing. Again.
Four matches, four times ahead, zero wins
That is the stat that hurts Bournemouth. They have led in all four of their Premier League matches this season. They have won none of them. Three points, 15th place, and a manager still waiting for his first league victory since arriving.
Marco Rose is no rookie. He can read a game. The issue is clearly elsewhere, and that is what makes the run so worrying: the Cherries are not losing matches they are being outplayed in, they are losing games they control for spells.
Brentford head back down the south coast with a point and fifth place. Six points from four games, and a start that is beginning to look meaningful. Schade scored both goals, including one gifted by the opposition, but that won’t bother the scorer’s chart.
At some stage, they will have to close out a lead and win a game. If they don’t, Bournemouth’s season could head somewhere nobody saw coming.
