The receiver room has been upgraded accordingly. Calvin Ridley remains the go-to target, Carnell Tate arrives as a first-round pick, and Wan’Dale Robinson brings reliable volume.
Those three give Tennessee a chance to punish man coverage if the Jets get too greedy. The catch is Ward needs time to let it breathe.
On defense, Saleh already has two players he knows well in Johnson and Franklin-Myers. That continuity should help smooth out the early stages of a new scheme.
The expected heat in Nashville will also shape the game plan. Nobody wants to leave a defense out there for long stretches in those conditions.
Tennessee should lean on the run and try to shorten the game. That is the best way to protect its young quarterback.
Third down is going to drive the whole contest. Neither offense is built to pile up easy points, so any sustained drive will need a string of third-and-medium conversions.

Geno Smith does not give the Jets a huge ceiling, but he does give them stability. After all the long-yardage mess they lived through in 2025, that is no small thing.
His job is simple: get the ball out on time, find Garrett Wilson at the right moments, and use Breece Hall as a pass-game outlet to keep drives on track.
Hall is also the piece that stops Tennessee from teeing off every snap. His ability to run and catch forces the defense to stay honest.
The real work is on defense, where one number says a lot: the back end did not record a single interception in 2025. Bringing in Minkah Fitzpatrick is a direct response to that.
New York has also added more juice to its pass rush. The aim is to close the pocket without blitzing too often, because Ward gets dangerous the second contain breaks down.
