Alexander Zverev had a very different week. The top seed took care of Luciano Darderi in straight sets and got off court before midnight, his first early night of the fortnight. He is also the only man on tour to have made the quarter-finals at all four majors this season.
Their match closes the programme on Arthur Ashe Stadium, not before 7:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday 9 September, which is the small hours of Thursday morning for European viewers. Go five sets at that hour and you are watching the sun come up.
