MLB: Luzardo spins first career complete game in 1-0 Phillies win

109 pitches, two hits allowed

One hundred and nine pitches. In 2026, that number gets a starter through six innings and a handshake in the dugout. Jesus Luzardo used it to finish a baseball game.

The Philadelphia Phillies left-hander went the distance against the Atlanta Braves, giving up two hits and a walk while punching out 12. Final: 1-0. First complete game of his career, and he is now 14-5 on the year.

Grant Holmes was every bit as stubborn on the other side. Six shutout innings, three hits, two walks, six strikeouts. Nobody scored until the eighth.

One swing, second deck, game over

Two outs, nobody on, bottom of the eighth. Kyle Schwarber got a Didier Fuentes fastball and put it into the second deck in right field.

Number 43 on the season for him, most in the majors, and his third in three games. Luzardo had already made sure one run would be plenty.

A split that leaves Atlanta with the sour end

The win squares the four-game series with the Braves, who had taken three of their previous four and looked like they were about to bank another one. They fly out of Pennsylvania knowing they let a game they had every right to win get away.

In September a 1-0 grind pays the same as a 12-run blowout. Philadelphia did it with a starter who never came off the mound and a single swing from Schwarber. Luzardo’s next turn comes around the weekend.
