New York are adding defensive lineman Dean Lowry to their practice squad, ESPN reported today. Kickoff is days away.
Practice squad does not mean parking lot. Those players work with the starters all week and get elevated the moment the injury report gets ugly, which for a defensive line it always does. Cheap depth, available on 24 hours’ notice.
Pittsburgh cut Lowry on August 30 in the trim to 53. Routine roster math rather than a verdict on the player.

He has not played a snap since 2024
The ACL went during Steelers camp last year and took his entire 2025 with it. Thirty-two years old, a full season out, no game tape from the comeback. That combination is why he was still available in September.
The résumé is solid enough: 16.5 sacks, five fumble recoveries, 271 tackles across 132 games with 85 starts. Not bad for a fourth-round pick.
Green Bay drafted him out of Northwestern in 2016. Seven years there, a season in Minnesota in 2023, then Pittsburgh in 2024.
The Giants are risking almost nothing
If the knee holds, they have a lineman with 85 NFL starts sitting on the depth chart. If it does not, they release him and nobody notices.
The only real question is when he gets his first elevation.
