A captain who refuses to panic
Florian Thauvin spoke out on Sunday morning. The RC Lens captain is coming off a second straight Ligue 1 defeat, a home loss to Lorient (0-1). He is in no mood to overreact.
“There have been a lot of changes in the team, in terms of the players and the staff, so now we need to find a new balance with a team that works,” he said. He then added: “But I have no doubts, we will get there.”
The message is aimed as much at the dressing room as the outside world. At 33, the former Marseille man is owning his role as the leader in a side that was heavily reshaped this summer.

The Champions League as a breather
Lens are back in the Champions League. The club travels to Prague to face Slavia. Thauvin sees the fixture as a lift, not a burden.
“That is how it is, it will do us good to switch competitions, we are going to hear a different tune,” he said.
He is focused on the process rather than the immediate results: “We are all going to keep working together, look at the video to see what is not right, fix it and stay positive because we will get through this together.”
The No 10 went even further. “Sometimes it is not a bad thing to go through this,” he admitted. A way of turning a poor run into a necessary stop along the road.
A summer of upheaval
Lens changed plenty this summer. New players, new staff. Dino Toppmoller is going through his first real rough patch on the Lens bench, after a start to the season that promised more.
The schedule is not giving them a breather. The European trip comes quickly, and it lands at the worst possible time on the points front and maybe the best possible time for the mood, depending on how you look at it.
Prague on Tuesday, then. Bollaert can wait its turn.
