US Open: Sabalenka v Townsend, what time is it on and where can you watch it?

Day session gets under way at 5:30pm CEST

Aryna Sabalenka begins her last-16 tie against Taylor Townsend on Sunday, 6 September, kicking off the day session on Arthur Ashe Stadium. The match starts at 5:30pm CEST, which is 11:30am on the East Coast. Nothing is scheduled before it on centre court, so the start time should hold.

The defending champion is protecting more than a trophy. Her lead at the top of the WTA rankings has been cut to a little over 400 points over Elena Rybakina, and a slip in New York would blow the race wide open. Townsend, meanwhile, is on home soil and has three Grand Slam doubles titles in her back pocket. Allow around an hour and a half for a straight-sets win, more than two hours if it goes the distance.

Eurosport takes over at Flushing Meadows from 5:30pm

The US Open runs on Eurosport in France from the first round to the final. As this match opens the session, there should be no delay: the broadcast goes live from New York at the advertised time. If you do not have the channel in your package, HBO Max is the other option, with the network streams included in the sports offering on both computers and smart TVs.

Schedule subject to change by the tournament or broadcaster.
