645 yards, and not one giveaway
South Carolina beat Kent State 57-0 on Saturday night in Columbia. LaNorris Sellers threw for 270 yards and three touchdowns. The Gamecocks rolled up 645 yards of offense and never once put the ball on the ground or into the wrong hands.
Sellers finished 19 of 23. He was among the better quarterbacks in the country to stay where he was through an offseason when plenty of others did not.
Donovan Murph did most of the damage catching it: four receptions, 92 yards, two scores. Mazeo Bennett Jr. added one of his own. Mike Tyler got his from seven yards out, thrown by backup Cutter Woods.

The game ended somewhere in the second quarter
An 87-yard drive in eight plays opened the scoring. Matt Fuller punched it in from seven yards on South Carolina’s second possession of the night.
Sellers added two touchdown throws before the break, and the Gamecocks went in leading 29-0. Under two minutes after the restart he found Murph again from 37 yards. 36-0.
Jabree Coleman needed only four carries to score twice, gaining 77 yards along the way. Isaiah Augustave piled on with two more rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Kent State managed 179 yards all night
The South Carolina defense gave up almost nothing. The Golden Flashes went 14 of 23 through the air for 79 yards. Dru DeShields threw for 63 of those and led the team in rushing with 27.
One lost fumble. Eight punts. Mark Carney is starting his first full season as head coach after taking over on an interim basis last year, and this was not the opening night he wanted.
One more number worth keeping: South Carolina converted seven of its eight third downs.
