Manchester City – Bayer Leverkusen: a first clash with everything on the line 
Shaken in the Premier League, Manchester City hope to catch their breath in Europe as they host a resurgent Leverkusen. The English side have ten points after four games and sit fourth, while the Germans arrive in form despite a more modest position in this group phase.
Manchester City: Europe to forget Newcastle 
City could’ve stayed on Arsenal’s coat-tails, but the loss at Newcastle blew that up. After a tight first hour the Citizens folded in ten minutes: Barnes struck first, Dias levelled, then Barnes landed a second blow. 2-1. Their run stopped dead.
In the Premier League City have now failed on two away trips, but the Champions League paints a different picture. Guardiola’s side tore Dortmund apart in the last round (4-1), showing a level of control far above what we’ve seen domestically.
Above all, the club remains untouchable at the Etihad:
– 23 matches unbeaten in group-stage games,
– 20 wins in that period,
– and at least two goals scored in each of their last seven European home outings.
Leverkusen: Hjulmand’s revival 
Since Erik ten Hag left, the turnaround’s been striking. Kasper Hjulmand has injected fresh energy and Leverkusen are stringing together convincing displays. Their first Champions League win came in the fourth match, a precious 1-0 at Benfica.
Just before the break they hammered Heidenheim 6-0, then confirmed the rise with a 3-1 win at Wolfsburg. Those results pushed them up to second in the Bundesliga and gave real momentum.
In their last nine games the Germans have won seven, the attack firing again and confidence back. A win in Manchester would be historic: it would give Leverkusen their 50th Champions League victory.
The challenge’s massive though. Facing City at the Etihad is never easy, and this will be the clubs’ first official meeting.
