Six scoreless innings, and the trend keeps rolling
Blake Snell threw six shutout innings on Friday night at Dodger Stadium. Five hits, two walks, seven strikeouts. Los Angeles beat Washington 5-3 to open a three-game series.
The number that matters is not on the box score from the night. Since returning from surgery to remove loose bodies in his elbow, Snell has allowed just three runs in five starts. A pitcher doesn’t put together that kind of run by accident after elbow surgery. His record climbs to 3-1.
Across the diamond, Jackson Kent lasted five innings in his fifth career start, giving up four runs, three earned, on four hits and four walks.

The Dodgers keep moving without Ohtani
That was a second straight win without Shohei Ohtani, who is dealing with issues in his knee, biceps and neck. The bats didn’t wait around for him.
It was decided in the third. Kyle Tucker and Enrique Hernandez drew walks, Mookie Betts drove in the first run with a single, then Teoscar Hernandez made it 3-0 with a two-run double. A tidy bit of symmetry: the ball landed in exactly the same spot as the double he crushed against St. Louis the day before.
Los Angeles added another in the fourth. Alex Call doubled against his former club before scoring on Tommy Edman’s grounder, mishandled by shortstop Nasim Nunez.
Tucker finally snaps the slump
Kyle Tucker’s homer in the sixth was worth more than a simple insurance run. It was only his 12th of the season, his third in 67 home games, and his first since August 8. For a player brought in to be a major piece, that’s been a long wait.
Washington avoided a second straight shutout in the ninth. Abimelec Ortiz brought home a run with a single off Seth Halvorsen, Jorbit Vivas followed with a groundout, then James Wood doubled to bring the tying run to the plate. Chaparro ended it with a flyout. Jack Dreyer shut the door for his second save.
Wood, who had two doubles, remains one of the few bright spots for a Nationals side heading into a six-game trip through California, with a stop in San Diego, after winning five of their previous six.
