Snell keeps rolling since the elbow surgery
Six innings, no runs, seven strikeouts. Blake Snell handed the Los Angeles Dodgers a 5-3 win over Washington overnight at Dodger Stadium, and the number that matters most is not from Friday’s box score. It is three. Three runs total across five starts since surgeons cleaned loose bodies out of his elbow.
He scattered five hits and walked two. The Nationals never got a runner home while he was on the mound. Snell moves to 3-1.
The win opened a three-game series, and it was the second in a row the Dodgers have taken without Shohei Ohtani, who is nursing a sore knee, a sore biceps and a sore neck all at once.

Teoscar Hernandez finds the same patch of grass twice
Los Angeles built the lead in the third on two walks and a bit of patience. Kyle Tucker walked, Enrique Hernandez walked, Mookie Betts singled with one out for 1-0. Then Teoscar Hernandez doubled two runs home.
He hit it to almost exactly the spot where his game-ending double landed against St. Louis on Thursday. Two nights, same outfield, same result.
The fourth was messier. Alex Call doubled against the club that used to employ him, then scored when Nationals shortstop Nasim Nunez misplayed a Tommy Edman ground ball.
Tucker added the fifth run with a home run in the sixth, and that swing says plenty about how his season has gone. It was his 12th of the year, only his third in 67 games at home, and his first since Aug. 8.
Washington keep it from becoming a shutout
Jackson Kent, making the fifth start of his career, wore the damage: four runs, three of them earned, on four hits and four walks across five innings. He drops to 1-3.
The Nationals finally scored in the ninth. Abimelec Ortiz singled in a run off Seth Halvorsen, Jorbit Vivas added an RBI groundout, and James Wood doubled one home to bring the tying run to the plate before Chaparro flied out. Jack Dreyer took the last three outs for his second save. Wood finished with two doubles.
Washington had won five of six before this week. They have now lost two straight, and they are one game into a six-game California trip that still has San Diego waiting at the end of it.
