Alverca vs Braga : an iron-clad defence up against a fragile fortress 
Braga have kept seven clean sheets in their eight competitive games this season. The only goal they have conceded came in the 2-2 draw at Moreirense on opening day.
The Minho Warriors head to Alverca on Saturday at 18:00 local time for matchday 5 in Liga Portugal. So far, the fixture list has been anything but smooth for the visitors.
Two matches were postponed, one against Gil Vicente because of a gastrointestinal outbreak and the other against Estrela Amadora because of European commitments. Braga have therefore played only two league games, collecting four points and sitting ninth.
Alverca, meanwhile, are 16th with two points from four rounds, having scored four and conceded eight. The 2025-26 newcomers, who finished 11th last season, have now gone seven league matches without a win.
Even so, both teams do share one thing: each has protected something. Braga have built a defensive wall, while Alverca are unbeaten at home in their last five outings.
Last season’s meeting, though, hangs heavy over this one. Alverca lost 3-0 in this exact fixture, then went down 5-0 in the Minho in January.
Braga are chasing back-to-back league wins for the first time since April. It is also a reminder of the consistency Carlos Vicens is still trying to squeeze out of this side.

Alverca have picked up just two points from their opening four Liga Portugal matches, with four goals scored and eight conceded.
Their league winless run is now seven games long, with three draws and four defeats, stretching back to last season. The club finished 11th on their return to the top flight under Custodio, who left at the end of the campaign.
Sergio Ferreira has inherited a tricky start, taking in defeats at Porto and Sporting alongside home draws. The 2-2 with Estrela and last weekend’s 1-1 against Santa Clara show the pattern.
That latest game summed things up neatly: Vivaldo Semedo headed Alverca in front in the 69th minute, only for Brenner to level late on.
Still, the draw extended a five-game unbeaten home run, made up of two wins and three draws, which began last season. It is the one solid platform Ferreira can lean on on Saturday.
The squad remains stretched. Sabit Abdulai and Julian Martinez are out with knee problems, while Bastien Meupiyou is a doubt after taking a knock. Right-back Nabil Touaizi, who went off after 21 minutes against Santa Clara, will be assessed, with Diogo Spencer ready to step in.
Up front, Semedo carries two goals for the season and will again have to shoulder the attacking load against the best defence in the division.

Braga : seven clean sheets in eight, but the away form still needs work 
Braga have conceded just once across their eight competitive matches this season.
Their European run tells the story. Six games to reach the Conference League league phase, six clean sheets. The only crack came in that 2-2 draw at Moreirense on the opening weekend, after Braga had led by two.
A return to domestic action brought a hard-earned 1-0 win over Vitoria de Guimaraes on Monday in the Minho derby. Diego Rodrigues settled it in the 79th minute.
That result leaves them on four points from two league matches, with three scored and two conceded. Braga have finished fourth in each of the past three seasons and are aiming higher this time, with a place on the podium the target.
The concern is away from home. The Warriors have failed to win their last three league games on the road, drawing two and losing one, and they have conceded exactly two goals in each.
Carlos Vicens is still without captain Ricardo Horta, who has a thigh issue, along with Bright Arrey-Mbi, who is carrying a muscle problem, Jean-Baptiste Gorby and Sikou Niakate, who has been out for a long spell with an Achilles injury.
There are, though, two reasons to look forward. Rodrigues is pushing for a first league start since March after his decisive strike, while summer signing Jonas Wind has returned to full training and could make his debut.

One goal conceded in eight competitive matches. That is the stat driving this pick. Alverca have scored only four times in four league games and remain heavily dependent on Vivaldo Semedo up front.
Last season’s two meetings went Braga’s way in style, 3-0 and 5-0. The balance of power has not shifted, and Alverca’s treatment room still looks busier than the visitors’.
The most likely script is a tight game in which Braga eventually find a way through, much like they did against Vitoria on Monday. We are backing the Warriors to take it.
