NEC Nijmegen vs Feyenoord: two years without a win for the Rotterdam side 
NEC Nijmegen host Feyenoord on Saturday 5 September at 16:30 local time at the Goffertstadion. This fifth round of the Eredivisie pits two clubs separated by four places in the table.
NEC have six points from three games and sit seventh. Feyenoord are third with eight points, but they have played one game more.
A home win would see the hosts leapfrog their visitors in the standings. The gap between the two sides is far tighter than the table suggests.
Feyenoord have not beaten Nijmegen for two years, with three draws in that spell. The historical record still heavily favours the Rotterdam side, who have won 55 of the 90 Eredivisie meetings between the clubs.
Both teams come into this one after a hectic European summer. Nijmegen fell in the play-offs against Bodoe/Glimt, while Feyenoord booked a place in the Europa League.
This game will mostly hinge on whether the visitors can get their defence in order. They have shipped two goals in each of their last four league matches.
Nijmegen beat Olympiacos 2-1 in an early European qualifier before going out to Bodoe/Glimt. Feyenoord, meanwhile, will play in the Europa League this season.
So both clubs arrive with legs already well worked. The pace of those fixtures has shown up in the goal-fests of recent weeks.

Nijmegen threw away their European chance in Bodoe, where Gonzalo Crettaz was sent off after just three minutes and basically killed the tie. They lost 3-0 that night and 6-1 on aggregate.
Even so, the club will still be back in the Europa League, a competition they last played in 2008-2009. For a squad of this level, that is a decent consolation prize.
Their return to league action was an immediate 3-1 win at PEC Zwolle. Tjaronn Chery scored twice from the spot before Perr Schuurs headed home on debut.
Dick Schreuder’s side are easy to read from the numbers: eight goals scored and four conceded in three league games. It is all attack, all the time, and it tends to produce long, wild games rather than controlled wins.
Chery is still the club’s top scorer with three league goals, more than any of his team-mates. His knack for winning and converting penalties carries real weight late in matches.
Deveron Fonville, who went off at half-time in Zwolle with an ankle problem, is expected to miss out. He would join Philippe Sandler, Darko Nejasmic and Ahmetcan Kaplan in the treatment room.
The opening-day 2-1 defeat to Telstar remains Nijmegen’s only league slip. The 4-1 win at Willem II quickly put them back on track.
Bryan Linssen partners Chery up front in Schreuder’s system. That experienced duo gives Nijmegen a rare edge for a club of their size.

Feyenoord unbeaten in 18 but still shaky at the back 
Feyenoord are unbeaten in 18 matches in all competitions. But that run hides a few worrying details.
The latest came against ADO Den Haag, a newly promoted side whom the Rotterdam team let build a two-goal lead after 53 minutes. They were rescued by Ayase Ueda and then Anis Hadj Moussa in a 2-2 draw.
The territorial domination was total that night, with 33 shots to 8 and 2.37 expected goals to 0.22. Finishing and defensive structure both went missing at the same time.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men have also failed to win either of their two home games at De Kuip this season. Their last two away trips, to Sparta and Cambuur, did end in victories.
Ueda’s late move to Lille in the final days of the summer window leaves the attack without its best finisher from last season. Nacho Ferri is the favourite to lead the line, with Gjivai Zechiel the main attacking link behind him.
Van Bronckhorst also has to cope without Bart Nieuwkoop, Gijs Smal, Jakub Moder, Thomas Beelen and Jordan Bos. That list goes a long way to explaining the instability in the back line.
The 5-2 win at Cambuur is a reminder of the firepower in this squad. Feyenoord have scored 12 goals in their last five matches.
Anis Hadj Moussa remains the man for tight spots, as shown with the equaliser against Den Haag. He will again carry a big share of the creativity on Saturday.
