Kane, the man picked by his winger
Luis Diaz has made his call. Asked by ESPN about the 2026 Ballon d’Or, the Bayern Munich winger put Harry Kane right at the top of his list. The Colombian is talking about a player he sees every day on the training ground.
Diaz hammered home the England captain’s all-round game. Kane scores, brings team-mates into play, runs, defends and hits from distance. The Colombian says he admires him and insists he never sees him put a foot wrong. He says flat out he wants to see him lift the trophy.
The praise comes from a player who could easily be in the mix himself.

A season with 45 goal contributions
Diaz has just come off a huge season. 26 goals and 19 assists in 51 matches in all competitions for Bayern. That adds up to 45 goal contributions across the campaign.
That puts him in the pack of serious contenders. He is 29. He left Liverpool for Bavaria and immediately took his game to another level on the left wing.
Picking Kane ahead of himself is hardly the move of a bit-part player. It’s a deliberate call.
What it says about the Bayern dressing room
Bayern have two genuine contenders for the same individual prize. That sort of thing usually breeds tension. Here, it has produced a public show of support.
Kane, for his part, carries a stubborn old label. His club output has never been the issue. Everything else has. A Ballon d’Or would wipe out the most repeated line of his career.
The shortlist is still to come. Diaz has already cast his vote.
