A fresh power unit for Monza
Ferrari confirmed during the day that it will roll out a revised engine for its home Grand Prix. The Scuderia is using the ADUO, the system that allows extra development for engine manufacturers that are trailing. It has been handed two bonus homologations. One of them is going at Monza.
The choice of venue is no accident. Monza remains the most power-hungry track on the calendar. The long straights punish even the smallest deficit on the stopwatch, and they do it fast.
Recent FIA figures were used as the basis for the calculation. Red Bull Powertrains has the most powerful combustion engine in the field, and that benchmark has shaped the distribution of development tokens. Audi, Ferrari and Honda are all more than 4 % behind the Austrian unit.

Vasseur keeps it cautious
Fred Vasseur is not promising any shake-up in the pecking order. “On the performance side, we are introducing an updated engine as part of the development opportunities available through the ADUO,” the Scuderia boss explained. “It is a step in the right direction and, as we know, this year is all about marginal gains.”
The pack is tightly bunched, and Ferrari is putting its faith in execution first. “Monza is a demanding circuit, so our priority will be to get every part of the weekend right, starting on Friday,” added the Frenchman.
That engine deficit keeps coming up with the drivers. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc have both pointed to the lack of power several times this season. The chassis, though, is widely seen as one of the best on the grid. It is the power unit that is dragging the numbers down.
Schumacher in the background
The weekend will carry extra weight. Ferrari is marking the 30th anniversary of Michael Schumacher’s signing, with the German going on to win five straight titles and race for eleven seasons in Maranello. The cars will run in a livery inspired by the 1996 F310, with matching race suits. Sebastian Vettel and Rubens Barrichello are also due to take part in a demonstration.
“Racing in front of our tifosi gives the whole team incredible energy,” Vasseur concluded. Now Ferrari has to turn the emotion into points.
