A deal done after the doors were locked
19:13 on Wednesday night, and Stade Brestois had a new winger. Giovani Versini, 22, leaves Pau FC for a four-year deal in Brittany. The fee sits around 2 million euros, with a 25% sell-on clause left with the club from the Pyrenees.
The move landed almost 24 hours after the summer window had officially closed. France’s emergency-signing rule makes that possible, letting clubs bring in free agents and certain other profiles outside the usual dates, under strict conditions. Brest used it.
Foot Mercato broke the agreement between the two clubs on Tuesday night. The confirmation followed on the club’s social channels.

Versini arrives off a season in Pau colours that turned heads. He went from watchlist name to genuine top-flight recruit in the space of ten months. The Marseille-born winger now steps up with no easing-in period.
The price is modest by modern Ligue 1 standards. Two million euros for a 22-year-old who has just put together a full campaign in the second tier is exactly the kind of business Brest have built a reputation on. The Finistere club got to Europe on bets like this, not nine-figure fantasy.
That 25% sell-on left with Pau says plenty too. A smaller cheque now, in the hope of a much bigger one later.
Depth on the wings, and very little time to settle
Versini’s arrival comes on top of Noah Edjouma, who joined on loan from LOSC in the closing hours. Brest have added attacking bodies without spending big, which fits everything they have done since promotion.
The jump from Ligue 2 to Ligue 1 rarely gives anyone much time to work things out.
