Valencia vs Barcelona: one goal against twelve, a gulf in class in La Liga 
One goal in three rounds for Valencia, twelve for Barcelona: La Liga does not often throw up a split this stark. Eight points separate the two clubs in the table.
Kick-off is set for Sunday, September 6 at 16:15 Spanish time at Mestalla. This fourth-round clash pits 16th against the league leaders.
Valencia have taken just one point from nine since the season began, with one draw and two defeats. Barcelona have made it three wins from three.
Los Che opened with a 0-0 draw against Celta Vigo, then lost 1-0 to Real Betis, both at Mestalla. The trip to La Coruna ended in a 3-1 defeat.
Barca began with a 5-0 win at Elche, followed by a 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao and a 5-2 thrashing of Rayo Vallecano. Three wins, twelve goals.
The reigning champions also have the league’s second-best defence with just two goals conceded. On both sides of the ball, the odds are stacked against Valencia.
The one home bright spot is that opening goalless draw with Celta. It’s the only time this season Valencia have kept a clean sheet.
Against an attack running at four goals a game, that sort of outcome looks hard to repeat. The margin for error for Valencia is basically gone.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are the only two sides to have won all three matches. The Catalans sit two goals ahead of the Madrilenians on goal difference.
Valencia cannot score at all 
One point from three games, 16th place, one goal scored: Valencia’s start is fast becoming a red flag. The club are only three points above the drop zone.
The most worrying number is that tally of one goal in three matches. No other side in the division is this blunt, apart from Getafe and Malaga.
Umar Sadiq is the only player in the squad to have scored since the restart. Nobody else has found the net in three matches.
Getafe, Celta Vigo and Malaga are the only other clubs stuck on one goal. Valencia are tied for the league’s weakest attack.
And it goes further: no Valencia player has registered a single assist this season. The club’s only goal has produced no credited final pass.
That lack of output comes from a complete absence of attacking rhythm. Javi Guerra, Pepelu, Arnaut Danjuma and Filip Ugrinic have not made a decisive impact once.
At the back, Stole Dimitrievski has conceded four, including three away to Deportivo La Coruna. The defence led by Mouctar Diakhaby and Cesar Tarrega wilted on that trip.
Two of Valencia’s three matches have been at Mestalla, yielding one draw and one defeat. They still have not won at home this season.
Hosting the leaders under these circumstances puts Valencia in the worst possible spot this weekend. Scoring once every three games does not exactly scream upset against Barca.

Barcelona are cruising with barely a bump 
Three matches, three wins, twelve goals scored: Barcelona sit top with La Liga’s best attack. Just two goals conceded complete the picture.
The 5-0 win at Elche set the tone on matchday one. The 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao and the 5-2 dismantling of Rayo Vallecano backed it up.
Hitting five goals twice in three rounds is the kind of output most defences simply cannot live with. The average stands at four goals a match.
Rayo Vallecano did at least score twice against Barca last time out. The Catalans had conceded nothing in their first two outings.
Raphinha leads the line with five goals, the highest total in the league. The Brazilian is one ahead of Kylian Mbappe in the scoring chart.
Fermin Lopez has three, ahead of Lamine Yamal on two. Three Barcelona players are already near the top of the La Liga scoring table.
Anthony Gordon adds three assists, the joint-best mark in the division. Xavi Espart has two more, taking the pair to five assists between them.
Against a Valencia side that has scored only once, Barca will not need to take reckless risks at the back. This setup should see the Catalans seize control from the off.

Barcelona have won two of their three matches by at least three goals, 5-0 at Elche and 5-2 against Rayo. The handicap market makes more sense than a short price on the straight win.
Valencia, meanwhile, have scored just once in three games and have no assists to their name. They also shipped three goals in their last outing at La Coruna.
Barca have scored at least twice in all three of their matches. Valencia have not scored more than once in any game this season.
