La Liga: Galatasaray tried to land Camavinga, but Real said no

Turkish bid knocked back at the last minute

35 million euros. That was Galatasaray’s offer for Eduardo Camavinga in the closing hours of the window, according to Turkish newspaper FotoMac. Real Madrid turned it down flat.

The fee was judged nowhere near enough by the club’s hierarchy. The Istanbul side were hunting midfield reinforcements and aimed high. It came to nothing.

Camavinga had shown no sign of wanting out this summer either. That settled it before Madrid even had to answer.

The door was not exactly bolted shut

The Athletic reported a day earlier that Real expected several of their players to be targeted by English clubs. Camavinga was on that list, and the club were not ruling out a sale if the right money landed on the table.

No Premier League side made a move. So the Merengues close the window with their midfield intact.

The Frenchman has just come off a performance that drew praise, too. Jose Mourinho singled him out publicly after the visit of Malaga. Handy timing, with his future back in the Spanish press.

Five years in and still fighting for his place

Camavinga is 23. He joined the Santiago Bernabeu in 2021 from Rennes at 18, after bursting onto the scene in Ligue 1 at a ridiculous age. Five seasons on, he remains a rare type in the Madrid squad, able to cover at left back or sit in front of the defence.

His minutes have swung with injuries and shifts in the midfield pecking order. This season should give him a proper run at forcing his way back into the starting XI.

He will be wearing white until January at the very least.
