An injury that reopens an old file
Borussia Dortmund have lost Giannis Konstantelias for several months. An ACL tear was confirmed this weekend. That leaves the German club needing to patch up its attack with only hours left before the transfer window slams shut.
Jadon Sancho’s name keeps coming up in Germany. The England winger is out of contract after the end of his loan spell at Aston Villa. No transfer fee would be needed, just the wages. For a club that watches the books closely, that is the kind of late-window deal that can start to look tempting.

The BVB are not shutting the door
According to Bild, any move would hinge mainly on the player’s concessions. Dortmund want a significant cut in his wage demands and a deal heavily tied to performance. At this stage, there is no sign formal talks have even begun.
Asked about the idea, executive Carsten Cramer sidestepped the question while admitting the name still carries weight with supporters in the Ruhr. He said the club “does not comment on any names at all”, adding that Sancho still has a spotless reputation inside the club.
The link between the Englishman and BVB is hardly a footnote. He joined from Manchester City’s academy in 2017 and built a European reputation at Signal Iduna Park before being sold to Manchester United for around 85 M€ in 2021. He returned on loan in January 2024 and went on to play in the Champions League final in that shirt a few months later.
Dortmund have already completed one attacking arrival on Tuesday, with Ethan Nwaneri joining on loan from Arsenal. A second addition in that area would hardly be a shock. The question now is whether the German club pushes ahead, or whether Sancho stays a last-minute temptation.
