Deal green-lit at the top
Monza have their winger. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Lombardy club have reached a verbal agreement with Boca Juniors over the transfer of Exequiel Zeballos. The fee is set at 4 million euros.
The go-ahead came straight from the top of the Argentine club. Juan Roman Riquelme, Boca’s president, has given the move his approval. Zeballos now just needs to clear his medical before linking up with Serie A.

The 40% that tells the story
The most revealing figure is not the fee. It is the sell-on clause. Boca Juniors will keep 40% of any future sale of Zeballos.
That number says two things. First, Boca do not believe they have sold him at the peak of his value and are banking on a bigger payday down the line. Second, they accepted a relatively modest upfront fee in exchange for that stake.
That kind of structure has become standard in moves from South America to Europe. Argentine and Brazilian clubs take less money now, but keep a claim on what comes next in a player’s career. For a player who has not yet faced European football, it’s often the quickest way to get a deal done.
Monza as the gateway
The move makes sense for the player. Monza may not be the brightest shop window in Italian football, but that can work for a player stepping into Europe for the first time: less immediate pressure, more realistic minutes.
Then comes the adjustment. Serie A’s pace and tactical demands are a different beast for a winger developed in Argentine football. That is the real job over the next few months.
