A straight loan, not a backdoor sale
RC Lens confirmed late in the afternoon that Rayan Fofana has left for Le Havre. The 20-year-old striker will spend the season in Normandy on loan, with no option to buy. That detail matters: the Artois club still hold full rights to the player and will get him back in summer 2027.
“Having become a France youth international over the last campaign, the promising striker will continue his development in Normandy,” Lens said in its statement, which also carried the club’s own #MadeInGaillette hashtag. The wording says plenty about the move. Lens are not cutting loose a player they no longer want; they are sending him out to find what they can no longer give him.

Twenty-nine games, six goals, and a ceiling
Last season’s numbers explain the decision. Twenty-nine appearances, six goals. For a 19-year-old striker getting his first taste of the top flight, that’s a respectable return. But it also shows stop-start minutes, with cameos off the bench and the odd start here and there.
His rise with France youth teams has backed that up. Rayan Fofana is no longer just an academy punt, he is now a striker with a national profile. At this age, progress is less about the training ground and more about actual minutes on the pitch. Staying at Lens would have meant another season stuck behind an established pecking order.
Le Havre offers him a stage
HAC gives him a different setup. The Normandy club nicked a point at Olympique Lyonnais on matchday two, with a side that keeps things compact and leans on pace in transition. That is the sort of environment where a striker who wants to run in behind can make an impact.
Lens, meanwhile, are wrapping up a busy window, with two new shareholders arriving in the capital and a rebuilt defensive recruitment drive. Fofana’s loan is the final piece, with a little more than 24 hours left before the deadline.
