Ligue 1 resumes on Friday with a hot fixture: Nice host Marseille at the Allianz Riviera, a game that could temporarily lift OM to the top of the table. Nice, meanwhile, will be looking to stop a negative run before it becomes worrying.
Nice : a side losing momentum 
Nothing is going right for Nice at the moment. Three defeats in a row across all competitions, no wins in November, and matches where the team starts well… before collapsing. The return to the Allianz Riviera, however, gives real reasons for hope. Nice have two consecutive home Ligue 1 wins and are yet to lose at home this season. More broadly, looking back to last season, the Niçois won seven of their last nine home league games. Only one defeat in that span: a narrow 1–0 loss to Toulouse.
Under Franck Haise, Nice have never lost three straight Ligue 1 matches. A further poor result on Friday would be a first since April 2023, underlining the importance of this game to kickstart the season. Another stat in their favour: they won their last two home meetings with Marseille without conceding.
Marseille : momentum restored 
If Europe remains tricky, OM are doing well in Ligue 1. Marseille sit two points behind PSG thanks to a three-match unbeaten run, all without conceding in the league this month. Domestically, De Zerbi has found a balance: controlled aggression, clear pressing, quick transitions and a defence finally steady.
In their last four away league trips, three ended in victory. Each time Marseille conceded one goal or fewer, a sign of solidity away from the Vélodrome. But one drawback remains: despite 28 goals scored this season (the league’s best), only six have come on the road. Their attacking efficiency drops significantly away from home, with two away matches without a goal.
Recent history isn’t much kinder: in their last six trips to Nice, Marseille have won just once, the 3–0 win in 2022. Still, they remain competitive in head-to-heads, taking points in two of the last three meetings.
