Four minutes later, Samuel Lino beat Gabriel Batista after a Jorginho pass. Flamengo were in front, and Botafogo never really recovered in this Rio derby from matchday 25 of the Brazilian league.

Behind them, Jorginho ran the show. He completed 22 passes in the final third, created one big chance, registered an assist and finished with an 8.1 rating. Erick Pulgar completed 81 of his 84 passes and saw 105 touches. Flamengo had 63 percent of the ball.
Cabral won everything except the bit that mattered
The night’s oddest twist wore a Botafogo shirt. Arthur Cabral won 13 of his 15 duels and all eight of his aerial battles. He also pulled off four successful dribbles. No one did better on the night.
And yet Botafogo still left with three goals against them. Rodrigo Bellao set them up in a 3-4-2-1. The shape held for a half, then fell apart when Flamengo turned the screw in the final 15 minutes.
In the table, Flamengo sit second with 48 points. Botafogo are down in 12th on 30. The Rio rivals are now 18 points apart.
There are 13 rounds left. For one side, it’s a title chase. For the other, it’s damage limitation.
